Dolores Morris, a member of Eden II’s Board of Trustees, has published a new, exciting book! “The Soldier That Wagged Her Tail” tells the story of William A. Morris, Dolores’ father, and his service during WWII. While staying in a port village in England, William encounters a small terrier, who he later names “Trixie”. Trixie became William’s constant companion during the war, never leaving his side. 

NY Autism Insurance Mandate: What You Need to Know

puzzleNew York is one of 39 states in the country to enact an autism insurance mandate, which allows for coverage of a number of medical and behavioral treatments, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). There are many questions families of children with autism might have, such as what services are covered and if children receiving an Individualized Education Program (IEP) are eligible for insurance funded services. Giving Hope Network Donates iPads to Eden II

The Giving Hope Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with autism and their families, orphans and disadvantaged youth through specially designed strategic initiatives. GHN board members Joseph Torres and Moish Tov recently toured 15 Beach Street with Principal Jamie Arnold and Eden II board member Terry Tarangelo. On behalf of the Giving Hope Network, Mr. Torres and Mr. Tov donated a total of 15 iPads during their visit to support participants at the new autism center.

The Eden II & Genesis Foundation will be celebrating the 15th Annual Genesis Golf & Tennis Classic at the beautiful Muttontown Club in East Norwich. This year, we are proud to announce Suzanne Reek, President of the Nassau Suffolk Autism Association of America, and the Fathers of Genesis as our honorees for their dedication and support to the program.

Celebrating 20 Years of the Genesis School

jan-e1337701710611Jan Downey is the Director of Long Island Programs and Services for Eden II/Genesis Programs.  She is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in New York State, and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). Jan is also the mother of two adult sons with autism. 

Eden II Names New Autism Center After Former Borough President

beach street cover On May 8TH, 2015, Eden II Programs held a celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony at its new state-of-the-art autism center in Stapleton. Located at 15 Beach Street, the new center was officially named the “Hon. James P. Molinaro Center for Autism,” after the former Staten Island Borough President, for his many contributions to both Eden II and the autism community. Jim has been a steadfast supporter and advocate of Eden II Programs. He was instrumental in securing city funding for renovating the 30,000 square foot building. He joined Executive Director Dr. Joanne Gerenser and two Eden II participants, Billy Irvine and Meghan Mattei, at the podium. Billy and Meghan revealed the naming to the great applause of the board and community leaders present.

Jim, moved by the tribute shared, “We have a moral obligation to help these children, these families in our community, who need something to give them hope.” With the rate of autism estimated at every 1 in 68 children, this help is needed now more than ever.
