United Way Aids in Recovery of New School Building After Storm

Hurricane Sandy ripped through the borough on October 29th, 2012. The storm caused billions in damages to countless homes and businesses. 15 Beach Street was one of those buildings devastated by Sandy’s wrath. The future home of Eden II Programs, 15 Beach Street sustained damage to its elevator systems, as well as the basement. The building was formerly the home of Staten Island Savings Bank, and furniture from the bank had been stored in the basement. At the June meeting of Eden II Programs, the board of directors approved the addition of three new board members. Christina D. Thivierge is a co-founding partner and principal of Thivierge & Rothberg, P.C., a private law firm founded in 2008 in New York City that handles exclusively special education matters. From 2000 through 2008, Christina was the Senior Associate at a Mayerson & Associates, where she handled special education matters (primarily for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders and related disabilities). City Council Awards $1,513,000 Toward 15 Beach Street Project!

  Dear Friends, We’re excited to share that the New York City Council has awarded Eden II $1,513,000 toward 15 Beach Street!    $1 Million of the granted funds is for the initial outfitting of the new autism center/school building. This includes classroom furniture, smart boards in every classroom, all office and conference room furniture… every bit of furnishings to complete the building! Additionally, $513,000 was granted toward the actual renovation of 15 Beach Street and the parking lot. This support is thanks to Councilman Recchia and Councilman James Oddo, as well as Councilman Vincent Ignizio and Councilwoman Debi Rose. Please join us in welcoming Nicole Vaughan to Eden II as the LI Development and Public Relations Coordinator. Nicole received a JD from the University of Colorado School of Law and a BA from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill where she graduated with distinction. She previously worked at the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence in their development department. Prior to joining the Coalition’s development department she worked as a Coalition staff attorney litigating matrimonial and family court cases from victims of domestic violence.
