Recognizing a growing need for autism services on Long Island, the Eden II Programs opened its first satellite school, in 1995, called The Genesis School. Genesis School serves students with autism ranging in age from 5-21. Each of the five classrooms has a certified teacher and a behavioral specialist as well as a communication specialist and 1:1 teacher aides as needed. Genesis School provides speech therapy and adaptive physical education.
The philosophy of the school is to provide research based teaching strategies that have been proven to be effective in the education of individuals with autism. Genesis School utilizes a variety of teaching techniques including: discrete trial teaching, incidental teaching, video modeling, and observational learning. Language, play, social, academic, self-help, and vocational skills are taught using research based teaching strategies.
Genesis School also provides parent training and support in a variety of ways, including hands on training in class and home as well as evening parent workshops.
