The four mile course is beginning at the Nassau BOCES Children’s Readiness Center in North Bellmore promptly at 9:30am.
The run, now in its fifth year promises a challenging, fresh course for runners and walkers fromLong Island and the metropolitan area. The net proceeds of the event go to the Eden II and Genesis Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to providing much needed funds for programs and services that support individuals with autism, including the Genesis School located in Plainview.
The Blazing Trails title sponsor is the Massapequa-based insurance company, Grillo & Associates. The run is sanctioned and certified by USA Track & Field Race, and continues to be coordinated by the Greater Long Island Running Club, with scoring and timing by JMS Racing Services.
This year, the event will honor Eden II Alum, Jonathon Brunot an avid runner with autism, who has been featured in the New York Times, Runner’s World Magazine, and is currently on the Jumbotron in Times Square, after winning the Yurbuds #BeyondTheWall national search for the greatest athletes. For his determination and success, Jonathon will be recognized and will run along with participants!
Randy Horowitz,Long Beach resident and Associate Director of Eden II/Genesis notes, “The time is right for us to blaze the trails brighter than ever before! We think our new challenging, but fair course, will attract runners and autism supporters from neighborhoods we have yet to run through. We know people will come out to honor our alum, Jonathan Brunot, as he runs this 4 miler as a short training run in preparation for his 9th marathon just 2 weeks later. The students at Genesis demonstrate endurance, fortitude and resilience each and every day. We hope you will find the strength and the spirit to come out and run with us and participate in Blazing Trails for Autism.”
The event’s hooded sweatshirt has become a favorite with participants and will once again be given to all who register. Food and beverages from the local community will be available at finish line for all participants, along with great raffle drawings. Awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers in each of 16 age groups, from 12 and under through 80 plus, plus Clydesdale Men and Athena Women.
