A new federal rule requires many adults who receive Medicaid to show they are working, attending school, volunteering, or participating in community service for at least 80 hours per month to keep their health coverage. These work requirements generally apply to adults without dependent children.

People with disabilities are expected to be exempt from these requirements. However, the new rules create additional paperwork and renewal requirements, which may increase processing delays and place some individuals at risk of losing Medicaid coverage if forms are not completed or processed on time.
