Abstract:

This lecture will present the evolution of applied behavior analysis (ABA) over 40 years, delving
into the extensive careers of the seasoned professionals who will discuss their comprehensive
analysis of the field’s transformation and future. The presentation will feature best practices,
ethical considerations, and the impact of the neurodiversity movement on ABA and autism.

Learner Objectives:

1. Attendees will list at least three common misconceptions of applied behavior analysis
(ABA).
2. Attendees will identify two-three changes in the application of ABA in the field of
autism.
3. Attendees will describe the impact of the neurodiversity movement on ABA and autism.

Dual Diagnosis in Individuals with ASD

Abstract:

Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are often diagnosed with additional disorders
and/or genetic conditions that negatively impact learning. This presentation will discuss the
multiple diagnoses and target teaching strategies to achieve better outcomes for the individuals
we serve.

Learning Objectives:

1. Attendees will identify the various multiple diagnoses that individuals with autism spectrum
disorder (ASD) may have that negatively impact the acquisition of skills.
2. Attendees will describe some of the language, learning, and behavior characteristics of these
additional disorders and genetic conditions.
3. Attendees will identify and describe research-based teaching strategies to implement with
individuals with ASD and comorbid diagnoses to achieve better outcomes.

10 minutes Discussion of additional disorders and/or genetic conditions that may occur in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
