Eden II is dedicated to improving the lives of adults with autism and developmental disabilities by creating job opportunities, providing training, and assisting with job placements. At the same time, we support Staten Island businesses in developing and implementing programs to hire individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Transition Work Experience Program provides individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities, ages 18 and older, who have graduated from high school, with the chance to develop important vocational, social, and independent living skills that are crucial for job success. These programs offer practical, hands-on experience to help participants discover their strengths and find the best job fit for their abilities.

The Transition Work Experience Program:

At Eden II, we assess each participant’s abilities and interests through a personalized, person- centered approach. We work with each individual to explore their strengths and preferences throughout the evaluation and learning process.

The Transition Work Experience Program will maintain a ratio of 1 support staff for every 3 participants throughout the program. Because the training is conducted in a place of business, participants need to be able to:

Follow basic one-step instructions (either verbal or visual)
Adhere to safety guidelines established by the workplace and support personnel
Utilize coping strategies to express frustration or anger
Use public restrooms with little to no assistance
No recent incidents of elopement

The program will consist of:

Operates 52 weeks per year
Meets one-two days per week for 1.5 hours (based on participant’s needs)
Offers 2 hours per week of workplace skills training and 1 hour per week of instruction focused on curriculum-based strategies and support.
Tuition is $800 per month
Participants must provide their own transportation to and from the work site.
