- Participants will identify the somatic, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral components of anxiety in response to stress that impact communication in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
- Participants will describe the complex behaviors demonstrated by individuals with both ASD and anxiety and understand the overlap in behaviors that may co-occur.
- Participants will list several treatment methodologies to help alleviate symptoms of anxiety in individuals with ASD and increase coping skills.
- Participants will identify symptoms of catatonia in ASD and therapeutic interventions.
Time Ordered Agenda:
15 mins. Presentation of characteristics of anxiety in ASD including somatic, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral components in response to stress
20 mins. Discussion of the impact of anxiety in individuals with ASD and various behavioral manifestations of both along with those who develop catatonia
25 mins. Detailed description of treatment methodologies and strategies that work with individuals with ASD.
