Being on the Autism Spectrum can be challenging for someone who also identifies as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Statistics show that the same if not more individuals with ASD consider themselves part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Those with ASD and LGBTQ report feelings of “not belonging” to either group or being “outcasts”. They report that their sexuality is ignored and not taken seriously. They also report being bullied, victimized, and discriminated against. This webinar will include statistics and research in the area of LGBTQ/ASD issues. It will review basic concepts to better understand LGBTQ needs in special populations and cover suggestions for educating others, teaching acceptance, and becoming better supporters and advocators for those on the spectrum and LGBTQIA+.
